If you missed my first blogpost about ziplining and survival mode on our St. Lucia trip, check it out here.
The second time Jared and I escaped off of the resort was to experience the Wet ‘n Wild tour with Treetop Adventure. It included everything you could ask for for the true island experience: mud baths, homestyle island food, snorkeling, and so much more.
At 8:15 am, we hopped on a big catamaran with about 15-20 couples and families. We were instantly greeted with smiles and jokes and laughter, and offered fresh pineapple juice along with other fruity traditional beverages.
The catamaran boat ride was such a beautiful experience. An hour and a half on a boat may seem long to some, but it was the absolutely perfect. There was entertainment on the boat while the tour guides walked around to take photos and tell fun facts about the scenery in the foreground.
Once we arrived to our destination, we hopped on island buggies and took a scenic tour around the rainforest. (Thank God for Jared who drove a stick shift on the left side of the road!) We stopped multiple times along the way to hop off the buggy, take photos, and hear about the historic spots.
Then came the real fun. We made a pit stop at a black sand beach for a quick swim with the group. This gave us a chance to relax and chat with some of the other vacationers on the tour. About an hour later, we arrived at a private-owned plantation restaurant. We were greeted with a St. Lucian favorite – rum punch. It was such an interesting experience to try different foods and drinks that locals enjoy on a daily basis. After experiencing home cooked island food, we hopped back on the island buggies to travel to volcanoes and the mud baths.
The mud bath was a first for me – but something I’d definitely do again! The first pool of water we walked into before covering ourselves in mud was SO hot. The water is naturally extremely warm and is not heated whatsoever. This is not something I’d recommend if you have the worst sunburn of your life (me). After rinsing in the hot water, we were handed buckets of mud to smooth over our skin. After more laughter and fun photo opps, we rinsed off again by going back into the scorching hot pool of water. Our skin was silky smooth afterward. It’s definitely a trip worthwhile… once you get past the smell of rotten eggs from the sulfur!
Shortly after the waterfall rinse, we hopped on the catamaran for another scenic boat ride and snorkeling trip. This all happened as the sun was setting – which may have been one of my favorite moments of the trip overall. The star of the show was the Piton mountains – two mountainous volcanic plugs located in Soufriere. They were a gorgeous sight to see… The only thing I wish we would have done during our trip was a hike to the top of them! Maybe next time 🙂
As the beautiful sunset appeared in the distance, upbeat island music was playing on the boat while rum punch and local beer were being passed around. Many of us gathered on the lower level of the boat to dance to island music and popular choreographed songs. It was such a delightful time to be in one of the most beautiful places on Earth with genuinely happy people.
If you ever have a chance to visit the beautiful Caribbean island, don’t go without booking a few tours like such. Treetop Adventure treated us very well and it’s something we’d do again in a heartbeat!
